@Gail So sorry it has taken me so long to respond and so sorry about your dad. Unfortunately, I am no expert in mustard gas but it does alter the DNA in our cells. Chemotherapy is a therapy based on the notion that if you kill enough bad cells (along with the good) you have some chance of survival. Mustard gas has been used for chemotherapy precisely because it has the ability to kill cells. We are using a poisonous gas that was used to kill people during a world war to treat cancer. That sound incredibly backward to me.

In terms of cell mutation and the question of heritable change, I don't know the answer. But germline mutations (DNA mutations of cells that produce the eggs and sperm) can be passed from parent to child. The question that is hard to answer is this: Can mustard gas cause germline mutations? I think it can. In the article (2nd link below) please look carefully at the last paragraph under "Discussion". The term is called "transgenerational carcinogenesis". The second link states, "...tumors and congenital anomalies can be induced by irradiation or treatment with certain chemicals such as urethane and that these phenotypes are heritable i.e., transmitted to generations beyond the first generation." The following links might be useful:

@sandrar I am very glad that this little blog is helpful.

I am a daughter of a WWI vet. He died from bone cancer when he was 73 years old. he was born 1897 and died 1970. His back bone simply just dissoved away, and his body made like a cocoon to support the back bone so he was up and walking around with this unknown condidtion. He was taken to an x-ray where the clintion broke into this area by pressing on his back asking him where it hurt. My father died on that table and they revived him he lived 2 weeks after that, in a great deal of pain. He had told me that he was musterd gased while he was in Germany. I found no records of that but the government is famous for distrowing the medical and other records that can give the person any money or cause to sue them. All of his children that are still living are having autoimune disorders much like he had before he died. Could the musterd gas change his DNA and passed this disorder on to us? Please is there any place I could go and read about it look it up on the internet? Gail

For his story and other stuff on this topic: http://www.mercola.com/article/microwave/hazards2.htm

Given the result of his study probably better a good idea to bin your microwave...

I hope I have more time to post more articles. I believe knowledge about cancer and how to prevent and fight is imperative today as we are bombarded with "stuff" that are not good for us. Thank you for your encouraging comment and I hope to write more in the future. And I am so glad to hear that you are healthy! -Jin
